Working in a startup is not that easy. It comes with its own set of challenges. However, startups open the door of possibilities where you get a chance to learn and explore new things you haven’t known before. Read this article for more details about dos and don’ts for startups.

Every organization has its own norms, but you should avoid a few crucial things while working in the startup. When we join an organization, we find a few good colleagues who are able to help and guide us, while some have a golden heart. Nevertheless, you should know what to discuss and what not to discuss in the workspace.

So, what we are trying to tell you is, there is a lot that goes on when you start working for a company. Today, we are going to discuss what you should avoid and do at your workplace. If you are a fresher, this article becomes more important because we will cover all the crucial points, helping you stay away from any controversies involved in your workplace.

Below are some crucial steps that you should AVOID at your workplace. Let’s find out those:

Discussing Your Private Life

It is the first rule that you should follow when you enter your workspace. Talk only when required; avoid discussing your private life like your relationship, or any personal information not linked to your office work. And try to connect via official email or a phone call rather than jumping on a Whatsapp or any other social app.

We agree it’s good to do some verbal communication but to maintain the decorum in the office and focus on your work, it becomes essential to avoid sharing your personal information. However, we are not asking you to avoid making friends. You can do so gradually and open up about your life when you trust that colleague and in a non-official environment.

Asking Unnecessary Questions

Asking questions is a good gesture, and it shows that you are assertive at your work but always try to ask smart questions as it represents your attitude towards your work. Smart work beats hard work and experience. Asking questions is a good sign, but sometimes it backfires on your understanding capabilities. So be smart and do smart.

That being said, don’t let your questions go unanswered. As long as it’s not silly and is related to work, you are good to go. Hesitating to ask questions can hamper your work, which won’t do you any good. Therefore, try to analyze if your question falls under the valid or silly category.

Too Much Complain

It’s one thing to express your displeasure with the way work situations are being handled, but if you get into a work routine where you’re griping to your coworkers consistently, you’d better change your practices. First of all, keep in mind that no one likes a complainer, but more so than that, the more you whisper about the office, the greater your chances are of saying something out loud that could get you into trouble. If you’re having difficulty managing your workload or dealing with a troublesome colleague, talk it out with your partner or therapist and keep your cool while you’re on the job.

Of course, if someone is genuinely bothering you in your workplace, for instance, a colleague, you can always talk to the Human Resources department without any skepticism.

Dress Inappropriately

Few offices nowadays are adopting a semi-formal dress code, and while that might be good for your comfort, it also opens the door to poor decisions. No matter how laid-back your office environment might seem, don’t make the mistake of wearing clothing that’s too fancy, revealing, or just plain unlaundered. Along these lines, avoid printed t-shirts with potentially offensive slogans. You have ample of opportunities to express yourself outside the workplace premises.

Spend Too Much Time On Phone Calls Or Social Media

Even if you work in a busy, bustling office, there is a good chance someone is keeping track of your work habits. It might be your manager or a coworker with a chip on his shoulder, but that person is bound to notice if you’re utilizing hours browsing on social media or talking away on the phone. Furthermore, you never know what data your company might be tracking, so if you’re using their internet, be aware of patterns that could get you into trouble.

Indulging In Politics

Some work environments lend themselves to non-work-related communications from time to time. But while it’s OK to rehash your weekend plans or engage in a worthless talk, bringing politics into the workplace should not be tolerated (especially today). Politics is a personal matter, but discussions around them tend to get heated, and lastly, you want to create an atmosphere of bad blood; thus, it brings negativity in the office culture.

After don’ts, we will discuss the Do’s what you should preferably do at your workspace.

Be In Discipline

When you enter your location where you work, be disciplined. Be gentle and murmur to everyone. Don’t be rude and maintain your voice tone. Do your work silently rather than disturbing your colleagues. And the most important thing is to come on time, which will positively impact your company’s image.

Be A Good Listener

Don’t react until you allow the person to finish his conversation; therefore, it becomes important to be a good listener at the workplace. It not only represents your positive image; in fact, it also helps to improve your patience level. Good communication is considered only when there are inputs from both persons and reach a conclusion.

Provide Suggestions When Required

This simply means when a manager or a colleague asks for your suggestions or any crucial inputs from your end. Never upset them, and give your tips to those who know, your words might solve their problems or give them a clear vision. But make sure you provide the appropriate suggestions related to the conversation, don’t go out of the frame.

Be Good To Everyone

Do not target anyone in the office or at your specific workplace, treat everyone equally, and be good to everyone by your helpful nature. Don’t be specific to any particular person; open yourself for everyone. If you have some issues with anyone, try to solve it as soon as possible because excellent work comes from a unique work culture.

Create A Proper Personal Email Address

It isn’t uncommon to need to communicate with your coworkers after hours or on the weekend. While many organizations allow employees to log into work email remotely, some do not. It’s important in these cases that you have a professional email address in the event you need to send an email to a coworker or your boss.

With the above information, we tried to cover the important information that might help while you work in a startup or the place you work. Some people do not adjust to office culture; they talk the way like they are at home. This should be avoided in the workplace; discipline helps boost productivity and finish the task on time.

Hopefully, when you enter your workplace next time, consider this information, and we’re sure you will know what to do and what not to do at your workplace.
